Winooski Recreation and Parks have teamed up with Winooski resident and creative writing expert, Aurora Hurd, to provide a fun and engaging creative writing course! This unique program is made available for two skill levels: teens (ages 15 - 17) and adults (18+). The goal of the class is to go over the basics of creative writing and how to use different aspects of writing craft to tell stories that are important to us. From constructing characters and plot to choosing a point of view and crafting dialogue, these classes will give writers of any level the tools to start their stories and polish their writing. Description: Are you considering taking the Nation Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge to write 50,000 words in November, but you: Want to write a novel and are having trouble knowing where to start? Have attempted the challenge before but never finished? Haven't written in years and want to dive back in, but need a place to start? Have lots of ideas but don't know how to begin filling that first blank page? This online creative writing course focused on getting started on the project you have always wanted to work on. The goal is for you to end the class ready to take on the month of November and claim the prize of having written 50,000 words of the first draft of a novel. This six-week course includes 1.5 hour live sessions once a week. The classes will take place from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm ET on Zoom . If you missed my character class in April, I will be teaching it again on Saturday, May 22th from 4 pm - 5:30 pm EST/1 pm - 2:30 pm PST. It is a free virtual workshop with SCRiB LAB on Crafting Characters. Class Description: Characters drive the movement in any story. This workshop will explore this through prompts and questions meant to drive into understanding your character. What are their motivations, wants, fears?
