Two Intro to Creative Writing Classes this November!

Winooski Recreation and Parks have teamed up with Winooski resident and creative writing expert, Aurora Hurd, to provide a fun and engaging creative writing course!

This unique program is made available for two skill levels: teens (ages 15 - 17) and adults (18+). The goal of the class is to go over the basics of creative writing and how to use different aspects of writing craft to tell stories that are important to us. From constructing characters and plot to choosing a point of view and crafting dialogue, these classes will give writers of any level the tools to start their stories and polish their writing. Courses will be provided remotely via Zoom - course information and participation instructions will be emailed directly to you in advance.

Teens - Begins 11/4/20 - Wednesdays, 4 - 5:30 PM / $60 resident, $65 non-resident

Adults - Begins 11/5/20 - Thursdays, 6:30 - 8 PM / $60 resident, $65 non-resident

Free Writing Workshop August 26th: Speed Date With Your Protagonist

When writing fiction, your protagonist is the center point. There must be a reason your readers want to get to the end of the story, and seeing what happens to your protagonist is a key motivator. Your readers don't have to like your protagonist, your protagonist doesn't have to be the "good guy," but they do need to be compelling. This is a prompt-focused writing workshop to help you build the strongest main character you can. Come ready with your protagonist and your preferred tools to write! Prompt #40: Write a detailed physical description of your character. How do you plan on integrating that throughout the story?
